There is a bleed screw on the filter for when you change it so would be best to do it that way (but you will need a pipe going to a jug don't just open it (see my post on oil change)). but it will bleed itself as it has a very good lift pump in the tank. been there done that.

Just purchased a 2006 grand Cherokee ltd 3.0 CRD. Excellent vehicle. It is an auto with 79k miles. I have an oil leak which is coming from the rear of the engine at the top under the turbo unit, it runs down the crank housing on the opposite side of the cat.
